In 2012, the old bleachers near Courts 1 & 2 were condemned by the City of Atlanta and later torn down. To replace them, the Friends of Bitsy Grant Board requested a 2015 proposal from Lord Aeck & Sargent (architects of the clubhouse) for a two-story concrete pavilion.
The resulting design was beautiful, but too expensive. So the Board searched for an alternative that could provide much-needed shade and seating for spectators, at a reasonable cost.
The solution: The Friends of Bitsy Grant propose to build two wood decks with shade covers, placed between courts 3 and 4 and courts 9 and 10 (see above and below for conceptual renderings by board member Theo Rudnak).
A total of 7 bids were solicited from builders, with 6 bids received. Based on the received quotes, the Friends of Bitsy Grant will seek to raise $120,000 over the coming months for the new platforms.
